Okay so I have to test this Aquaponics out- I have been wishing I could do hydroponics really bad for over a year, but I live in an apartment and only have a few fish tanks (which I had been growing some ~unsuccessful~ water plants in until recently) but it never even occurred to me that regular plants could survive in fish tanks, nor that fish could survive in a plant tank >:-)
This is the most fun I have had in a long time but I literally JUST bought some parsley seeds for growing so it will be a good week before I have the size that will go good in the little 2 gallon tank that has had no filter for a good year but is supporting fish just fine due to the water plants I will be transferring to my other tank until relocation.
The 2 gallon tank has 2 little barely-not-fry guppies in it and about 10 quarter-inch snails that will provide the needed nutrients, and due to the lack of a filter I'm sure it will grow rapidly!

THIS ROCKS!!!!!!
If the 2 gallon turns out productive I will expand it to my 10 gallon and get other people to join me… SSI does not provide a healthy eating lifestyle but with guppy breeding and plant growing I will be making a (little measly) profit in no time :-)

I have an entire packet of parsley to practice on so I will figure this out

Might take even longer than you think, parsley can be very slow to germinate :)

Cheers

Thanks for the warning about the parsley :-) I haddent thought to look at that part... hmm do roots like carrots grow well in this kind of contraption?

not good for root vegetables :(
media is too heavy and doesnt move/compact well with growth, so root veges end up distorted.
