New to aquaponics. Have a simple set up. PVC pipes that drain into a 20 gallon barrel. I have a solar powered pond pump that I am using to pump the water up to the top of the PVC and letting gravity do its thing. Not wanting to spend a lot of $, but what is a good way to filter the water from the solids?? Please help.

How about running the water through some media such as gravel? I am pumping my water from the tank into the growbed filled with gravel which both filters it and grows the bacteria that converts the fish waste (ammonia) into nitrates for the plants You should be able to run the filtered water back through your pipes. Gravel is cheap. You can also then grow plants both in the gravel as well as in the pipes.
. I am doing research into how different systems work, so I would be very interested in how your very simple system works out.
