Hi!

So excited to find this group. First heard of aquaponics last year and are in the process of setting up our first system. Currently acquiring all our needed equipment/supplies. Going to use two 275 IBC totes which we already have, plan on using clay pellets as our media, Tilapia as our fish, and hoping to grow duckweed. Right now looking for a good price on a good quality pump and would like to have it setup via solar with a backup battery if anyone has any good recommendations. Also looking for somewhere local where we can get fish food as well as any "additives" to help with the ph and ammonia levels until we add our fish if anyone in Southern California knows anyplace they can refer us to.  Our system will include a suptank and filter. So excited for this next adventure. Hoping to add another tank and grow beds next year once we get everything dialed in. Look forward to learning from you and getting any advice or tips.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome!

I don't live southern California so I won't be of much help with names of places to by stuff.

Be sure to start a thread for your system and post pics as you go.

The best advice for a solar powered system is to learn what your electrical needs are before spending any money on solar equipment. Once you know how much power you need a system can be designed. Adding capacity is not straight forward.

Hey, I'm from San Diego and just joined as well. I've been using aquaponics for almost 2 years. What part of SoCal are you from?

Sorry for the delay, sent you a PM. We are in Riverside County. What kind of fish do you use in your system?
