few questions some each as stupid as the last probably..

1.where do you purchase the applicable wate test kits.
2. how long does it take to see some genuine results from your system.
3. my system is only a week old and I was a bit egar and I bought and put some silver perch in my system already. was this way to soon will the fish die and am I an idiot for doing this lol...

Welcome Dylan.

1. You can purchase the API freshwater test kit from BYAP or maybe from a local aquarium shop.
2. Depends, your starting up as the weather is cooling so it will be a bit slow going. SP don't feed too much in the cooler months either. Try growing leafy greens to begin with.
3. Naa, all good.

G'day Dylan,
when you get your test kit keep an eye on the Ammonia, if it gets too high you can do partial water changes. If you have problems let us know early and you'll get answers generally pretty quick. Btw, we like photos. :thumbleft:

hey all sorry i havent been ctive on this at all but have been reading heaps... im semit happy with results so far.. ive noticed that seeds sown in my AP system are growing much better in the system then seddlings bought from the hardware warehouse starting with b... has anyone else noticed this?... also my silver perch that enthusiastic on there food i bought the proper aquacultre 1mm floating food off ebay and they only seem to eat it when it sinks (i assume) but when i chuck a few worms in from my wormfarm they go nuts its a feeding frenzy... so im feeling as if im starving the poor buggers..are silver perch known as big eaters id like to see them eating there food so i can see a bit of growth out of them... on the plus side no deaths so i must be doing something right... ill post some pictures later on as i love looking at other peoples awesome systems...

cheers,

Dylan

Can't help with the Silvers, I have Koi and Goldfish, as for the seedlings versus seeded, are you being extra careful with the root systems when you transplant? I know I've destroyed quite a few seedlings from being a bit careless :dontknow:

SP really slow down on pellet during the winter months, what are ur temps at the moment? I found in winter that my SP only ate things like cheap prawn, yabbies, worms, meal worms etc, I'd say it's an instinctual thing. They are a warm water fish.

arrr ok I thought it was strange that they weren't eating pellets but loving the worms... ill just throw the odd worm in for them and prey for summer to come sooner rather then later...
