Post subject:  G'day from Dampier WA

Hi all, just getting into aqauponics and have so far found this site to be an awesome wealth of knowledge. Everytime I have a look on the site I some how change, modify, or add to my design plan in my head. I will start a build thread shortly but as like most first timers I will be chasing a heap of help.

A quick first question though, I am planning a CHIFT PIST system and need some pvc bulkhead fittings for an IBC and grow beads, problem is no one at the harware stores have any idea about what I am talking about (neither do I), does anyone know a good place online where to by them and can provide a link. I am tring to get it threaded on bothe sides. I will be looking into uniseals as well but for the stand pipes I like the added security of a fitting to stop any leaks. If you have any better suggestions don't be shy.

Cheers Nath

Hi Nath welcome to the site i got mine from the retic shop though i dont remember there being one in Karratha or the LIA but its been some time since i was there. My stand pipe fit into bath/sink drains with the mesh removed they have not leaked and are threaded also so it might be worth looking in that direction.

Hi Nath, welcome!

Great place Dampier!... I have it on great authority only handsome, intelligent people are born there!... ... but I hear the old hospital has been completely demolished now though, so there won't be anymore of that happening.

For your GB standpipes you can simply use a pvc faucet socket and valve socket with an o-ring, cheap and easy... or if your GB's are directly over your FT then you don't even need the o-ring, just plenty of thread tape and tighten the fittings up good.

You can do the same for SLO's where they go through the wall of the FT, but you should definitely have an o-ring on them.

You should have Home hardware still... and Faranosi's heh?... or if all else fails and you're feeling rich, there's always Atom Supply, I know they used to sell fittings, and they'll definitely have the o-rings... but then again, it has been a long time since I left.

Gidday, Nath86. The local hardware peeps probably know bulkhead fittings as tank outlets, and it is hard to imagine that they don't stock them. In some applications Uniseals are a suitable alternative and they usually work out quite a bit cheaper than tank outlets, which can get very pricey in larger sizes.
I have spare Uniseals available so feel free to PM me with details if you can't get the tank outlets you want.

Thanks for the help everyone. As I said before my design keeps changing everytime I look on here.
Mr yabbies, I tried Home and Faranosi's for the bulk heads / tank outlets with no luck but I am loving the idea of the pvc faucet socket and valve socket with an o-ring idea, nice and easy.
Thanks for the offer PLJ, I'see how I go with this idea first but I will definately keep it in mind.

Cheers Nath
