Backyard Aquaponics
A place to discuss aquaponics

Hi everyone. I just happened to watch a segment about aquaponics on a gardening show and as my wife states I'm now obsessed. I've always struggled to grow plants, usually under or over watering seems to be my problem. After watching how aquaponics works I think it is the way to go for me. I think that once my system is set up and running I should be ok as long as I don't forget to feed the fish and keep a consistent growing schedule. I was going to construct the ibc set up but have now decided to down size and make sure it's for me before making major changes to the back yard. I have a small area where I could fit a bar fridge on its back for the fish with a grow bed above it just like a mini version of the ibc setup. The thing is are fridges suitable because I've only seen one person on you tube who has used one. Any advice on this and other hurdles I may encounter would be much appreciated. Thanks Shaun.

Hi Shaun, as long as its water tight (and probably wouldn’t let the water come into contact with the coolant elements or insulation) a fridge should work fine.
