I'm new to the forum. Just getting started setting up an aquaponics system. I am a retired Horticulturist from Mississippi State University and have grown plants using hydroponics and NFT. In my early years as an undergraduate I had a work study job at the catfish research farms. So I have experience separately but not combined in growing plants and fish. I have purchased 2-275 gallon IBC containers and am purchasing the other components for the system. Will run the system with power from a solar panel and am excited at the possibilities. I have friends at church who barely get by week to week feeding their families. Once my system is up and going I will help them purchase and build their own system and train them to grow their own food. Like they say: 'give a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach him how to fish and he eats for a lifetime.' Plus I think we all need to plan for hard days ahead when, not if, the system fails! If I can get a majority of friends at church utilizing this system we can help many people eat during hard times. I am from Starkville Mississippi, USA
