Hi, I'm new to this forum and to Aquaponics... I'm starting my first one in my basement... I've been able to read up on other information and have learned a ton, but seems like I still have a ton more to learn. I'm raising some fry tilapia for my 100 gal stock tank. I wanted some blue tilapia, but had bought some Mozambique Tilapia instead. Not to excited about them, would of liked the blues. as of now, I'm still setting up my whole system. my question is about lighting; is there a certain type of lighting i should use for my grow beds? this is my first question, but i'm pretty sure i will have more to come. thanks |

Welcome 612Guy! People's take on lighting vary based on what they are growing. Some plants do better with fluorescent, others with the high intensity deals. Everyone seems to like LED, but you need to spend the dough on the good ones. Some people have been trailing the cheap LEDs, I have been tempted to try a couple in my indoor system as it could use just a little boost, but most don't do much. |

hey ronmaggi, my nephew was telling me about LED lights too... he likes them, but they are a lot of money!!! might have to go on the cheaper end and use fluorescent lights for now... this is my first aquaponics... will improve as time goes by |

It may be less expensive to pay upfront costs on the LED lights and save in the long run on electrical expenses. |

LED lights that will put sufficient power to grow stuff are very expensive. I used few different LED lights, and then tested few T8 lights. I am using only T8 lights now. |
