Hello :wave1: , I've stumbled upon this nice website when I was researching aquaponics. You PPL have some very nice systems set up!

Aquaponics is still new in India. I currently have two systems running. first one is a 300 liter fish tank with two 100 liter grow beds and hydroton as media, this was setup in October 2013

and the second one(indoor system using LED lights) was finished a week ago using a 60 liter aquarium, 30 liter sump aquarium and 20 liter aquarium grow bed filled with layers of lava rock, hydroton and gravel

Looks nice! What kinda siphon have you got going in the outdoor system? Or is it on a timer?

Thanks a lot guys for the warm welcome

Both the systems have bell siphons on them, the indoor one has a venturi on it to slow the water and also to aerate the aquarium.

no timer on the outdoor system
The indoor system has a timer for running the lights only

Hi Nandu,

Your aquaponic system looks good. congrats for that.

I'm also from hyderabad, and a newbie to aquaponic system, earlier i have tried and was moderately succesful with hydroponics, but i feel aquaponics is still better.

I'm stuck with the bell syphon, in my case bell syphon is not working, can you please tell how to make a bell syphon.

one more thing where did you get hydroton in hyderabad?

Thanks &
Best Regards
- Raj

Hi Raj,

Welcome to the forum to you as well :thumbright: .

Do a search on Affnan Siphon and you'll probably get what you're looking for. Affnan did a lot of testing and came up with a very reliable siphon. There are some videos on Youtube about how to make one.

You should know though that you can run your system without siphons if you use the Constant Flood method. This has a media guard and a standpipe to set the water level. The pump operates continuously in this method.

You may want to start a system thread or discussion thread if you still have some questions.

Cheers
