Hello,
I am new to this and have just set up a small system in my garage. Two 17 gallon media beds with via stone, two 20 gallon fish tanks and one 27 gallon sump. This is my system I will learn from. Just started fish less cycling about two weeks ago and today is the first day I have seen nitrite in the system. I have added nutrafin cycle in the system to speed up the cycling process....hopefully :-)

Question about the hydro ton or viastone.. Why do any plant I put in get sucked to the bottom as the bell siphon drains the bed? When is the hydro ton supposed to stop floating?

Cheers or skål!
Matt

G'day and welcome to the forum Matt

Mate, the nutrafin cycle isn't going to speed up to any noticeable degree - it's just a patience game!

I kind of had that feeling about nutrafin but figured it couldn't hurt.
Thanks!

Im new to aquaponics but so far I am not fond of viastone. I did find it floats less if you add more. If there is no more room you could lower the stand pipe.

I cut the stand pipe down in both beds and so far it works. Thanks. I just hope i didn't cut it down to much... Only time will tell.
