Hey there to everyone! My name is Jacques, and I'm a South African currently living and working in beautiful Switzerland. In the canton of Fribourg to be exact, which is on the western side of Switzerland in the pre-Alps. I've been an anonymous browser to this site for a short while mainly looking at other folk's setups and trying to learn from their experiences. Switzerland experiences all seasons, where in Summers we can easily have 30+C temperatures, down to -15 or so in Winter (where I'm living at least). This presents an interesting problem to solve when thinking about setting up an exterior Aquaponics setup. My plan for now is to build a geodesic dome in my garden to house the setup but I need to be able to manage the environment in order to sustain healthy conditions for plants and fish alike. I'm a system engineer/software developer and so I'd like to use my skills into developing a complete environmental management solution and automate as much as possible. I'm going to be using a Raspberry Pi as the central controller and will develop a Aquaponics management framework in Python which I will open source for anyone to use. My first project on this journey is to build a micro AP setup in order to develop the first iteration of the software. If anyone here has any suggestions/plans for a micro setup I'd love to hear from you. Looking forward to sharing and learning with everyone on this wonderful site! Take care, -Jacques |

Welcome to the forum. I wish you good success with your plans, keep us informed with pictures etc. Will be nice to see as I am an tech freak as well and will start some automation on the weekend. Just got two microcontrollers and cleaned the laptop to install all the required software. Cheers |
