Post subject:  Hello from the states!

My name is Al and I live in California here in the United States. I am a disabled veteran and looking to give Aquaponics a go to fill the time and put a little food on the table. Love the concept and am very excited.

I live in a dry arid climate in the high desert. extremes can reach 120 F but that is not very often and averages during the summer about 100-110 F and for the winter nights gets to about 20 on extreme cold nights but averages about 35-45 F on winter nights.

Any suggestion or help would be great. Was looking at the book but had seen that a new one was coming out soon so I am not sure if I am going to wait or just pick up the digital copy of the old one.

Thanks everyone and hope to have a great time on the forum.

AL

Welcome you can also grab the free download IBC of Aquaponics from BYAP As well. Some one else from near Palm Springs just joined with the same temperatures as your area. May be able to work together, cheers

Good if the kids are willing to learn, once you have it up and running then you could try to interest their school in a system. Great way to spread the word and teach other people via their children. Cheers

Outstanding that makes it even better that I found this site mantis. Would love to visit Australia one day.

Thanks ccBear, my kids are homeschooled and have been bugging me for 2 years now to grow a garden for them as they love strawberries. Going to have to get going on this for sure this summer. They also have been bugging me to go fishing... now we will be able to fish in our back yard. Best of both worlds.

Question if anyone can answer... I am looking to have this totally sustainable without having to go to a feed store or fish store as we live in earthquake country. I just want to be prepared for the worst if something were to ever happen... can this be done????

Kinda like the preping thing without the tin foil head gear...LMAO.

Was in the USMC so I just want to be self reliant for those just in case times and at the same time enjoy some fish taco's with homegrown cabbage.
