Greeting from Western Pennsylvania! My name is Joshua, and I am studying to be a Presbyterian Pastor, and am very interested in things that would make myself more self sufficient. I got interested in Backyard Aquaponics when I watched Doomsday Preppers and a gentleman on there had developed a system where he grew duckweed and had tilapia and chickens that fertilized the duckweed. I would love to integrate that system with hydroponics and grow much of my own produce, fish, chicken and eggs. I would also like to raise rabbits. |

Hey Joshua! I'm in Northeastern PA and am just building my first aquaponic system, but have lots of experience with chickens, worms, veggies and such. Let me know if I can be of any help! --david |

Hey Joshua, You've started in the right place; there is a ton of information on this site. When I finally decided I was going to do this, I first identified the space that I wanted to use. That will dictate a lot when you begin planning. Then comes the hunt: I could not afford to purchase a system, so I had to hunt around until I found a tank to use. So that's my advice; define how much space you have to use and then find the largest tank you can fit in that space. The rest will be easy |
