Have been reading all the info online that I can find. Just added this forum to my bookmarks. Wife and I live in the northwest part of CR, about 25 miles from the volcano Arenal, in Fortuna. We have a 4 acre tree farm that requires our time, but, we are slowly gaining time back. We are tired of paying ever higher prices for food and fuel and electricity, so, we are about to construct our first 12 X 15 greenhouse type structure. We get so much rain here, I'm afraid that it will wash out the water in the fish tanks, so, we are planning a venting system in the upper sides of the structure, to help control temp swings. I have to have most of the seeds and other supplies shipped down from Florida, where my Son and Daughters live, and, are expecting to get a crate headed this way by Friday of this week, Feb 01, 2013. We are also working to create our own electricity for all the electronics in the house, because ICE the local power company is poor at maintaining the correct voltages and reducing the spikes that destroy our TV, Computer, etc. I am converting to LED lighting, and will be constructing Solar Panels and a Wind Turbine, of which I have most of that already built. Also, I am trying to finish my electric Bicycle- motorcycle, and, it is nearly finished. Waiting for wiring and the last of the 500 battery cells I bought out of country. Soo, too many projects, too little time and money. Helps keep an old man young in spirit though. Now, off to do more reading and finish up my website of Costa Rica Craft wood. We sell Pen Blanks, Bowl Blanks, etc. to try to keep up with the constant inflation and shipping increases. Look forward to maybe getting the CR guys to share some info. They all live far away from us, and, the climate differences will give us better info to tune up our first stages of Aquaponics. |
