Hi all just thought id introduce myself. I've been reading these forums for a while and the great advice and tips have allowed me to build my first system. viewtopic.php?f=18&t=14887 I hope everyone has a look and let me know what you think. Welcome... been a few people from across the ditch join recently.... Damn shame they wont let you use anything except grass carp in NZ... |

Yeah it is annoying our agriculture laws.. Oh well im fine using goldies for now. If you check out my system its more of an exercise in automating an aquaponics system more than anything.. |

Cause New Zealand has crazy tight laws governing keeping of freshwater fish.. |

trout are an introduced species how come you cant use them what is their rational? I grew up in wellington. welcome aboard the good ship ap. |

Just as an aside, I see that trout is something that alot of people are using, which of course our lovely laws say no to. What about salmon? I dont see anyone using it really? Though I'm sure its still against the law to keep them |

Salmon require a level of salinity... that doesn't go well with growing most veges... It is possible to do saltwater aquaponics.... but you're restricted to a few specific salt tolerant plants... or seaweeds, ulva... etc... |

Rupe with regards to the salmon needing salinity when i was at snobs sk they ran salmon in the old trout races with straight creek water.now most of these were big fish(big tasty fish when the new lot did not make trip from western vic) so is it something for the juveniles just curious cheers byron |

Probably true... but from fingerling to plate size... they're basically "juveniles"... |
