Folks, I've been lurking for a while, taking in all the information available, yet thirsting for so much more.
I'm very intrigued with the aquaponics process, and how to make it work for me.
I'm figuring out a micro system right now, as my own little proof of concept type thing, in preparation for a larger system when w get a home of our own, and i have some room to play a little more.
I do have to be very conscious of mosquitos, as my honey is violently allergic to their bite.
Our garden last summer was infested in a bad way, and i hope that this type of system will mitigate the bugs while providing even better produce and fish for our table.
Thanks in advance for your patience with me as i learn this stuff, and the ridiculous questions I'm bound to ask!

The water in your growbeds will be below the surface so mosquitos won't lay eggs there. The fish should take care of any that get laid in the FT.
That leaves the sump, but I think they only like still water so they may not lay there. If they do you could put in a couple of goldfish and they should handle them.

As far as other bugs, AP is known to attract slugs, moths/butterflies, cutworms (I hate those so much), etc.

jwhittak98, that's about what I'm building, in a slightly different fashion, but the concept is the same.
Once that works, and demonstrates the true effectiveness of the operation, my SWMBO will be on board with a larger system, in the order of a 5000 gallon pool feeding an appropriate volume of grow beds.
Another aspect I'm looking at is portable style greenhouses.
Winter here is pretty cold, well below freezing, but summers top out around 100f.
I'll need to be able to shade my tank and beds part of the day, when the sun is most extreme.
I'll research how to do natural pest control some more, as it appears to be one of my weak points of knowledge right now.
