Gday all,

Just saying hi, new user from perth.

Was going to be moving to a new large house and a pond was on the plans. Ive had to pause on this for a little while (grrrr damn land titles...). would love to do a system with perch or something and also some marron or the like.

Quick question, i really dislike barron ponds, the one at my new place is in the front of the house and will be a show pond with plants etc. Will i still be able to run an aquaponics system with plants alread in the FT?? is it just a function of size and fish matter?

I currently have a pond in the place i rent so im hoping to do a small system there as the pond and pump are already provided :)

Have posted a question about an interesting easy system over in the discussion thread if anyone was interested.

THanks and good to see such an amount of info here !!

welcome Ferozaj. No problem hooking up a growbed to an existing pond. Just be careful of sediment in the pond that could clog pumps and growbeds

Hi ferozaj

Good to see more perth people getting into aquaponics.
With the pond plants just be sure not to plant too many in the pond or they will use up all the available nutrients and the vegies will not grow very well at all.
My parents tryed some small floating rafts and a little planted GB in their gold fish pond but they have so many water plants in there that it nothing grew.
I tested there water for them and even after uping the feed to the fish for a few weeks could not detect any available nitrates in the water.
Hope this helps.
Good luck and hope to see some system picks once the land titles settle.
