Hi

Had fish die due to lack of oxygen.

If found within 10 hours (several not stiff) can these still be eaten?

Any assistance would be appreciated as some of these are a really nice size.

I personally wouldnt Snow but others might feel different. Its a hard one. I think if it was winter Id eat them if it was within half a day or so.

Ok thanks for the reply Charlie.

Definitely less than half a Day.

As soon as they had Oxygen the ones that where floating started to swim again..

I've Partially drained the main tank to Look for any sinker's.. could not find any more than the initial Lot I pulled out..

About 25 fish or so.. Got photo's of all of them on the scales the Biggest whole fish weighted in at about 800gm.. and was just a Tad over 37cm..
There was 2 more fish in the same size range and they came in at about 700-800gm's..

Shame you lost them... was it air pump failure?

In relation to fish edibility..for me, when it comes deterioration of fish there are 2 satisfactory methods for detecting the early stages of decomposition, and thats touch and smell. The developement of spoilage is definately a complex one but our natural instincs.. for me are the sure sign. I always got told that if a fish smells fishy and not fresh.. its probably no good. If the flesh feels mushy or softened or even discoloured its probably in the deterioration stage.

If the fish feel firm, colour well and smell ok... Id eat them. Assuming it was only o2 deficiency.

Only fresh fish I can find for android is a wallpaper app, but its pretty cool

Well the Fish that I thought where ok and the rest where discarded..

So I have 25 fish in the freezer.. and about 50 fish still swimming around..

the fish that where gasping for air in the tank got thrown into the settlement and after 30-40min of water back in circulation they came Good..

how this Issue came about..

I <<< Me Screwed up and stopped the water cycling and forgot to get it going again.. I'm definitely going to do the modifications I need to the system ASAP..

I think I need to get a few Picks of the Plant's they are actually going like crazy... I'm going to cut back one of the spinach's and see how it goes at regrowing.. I'll do the same for the celery..



So in the Long Run If it ain't broken Don't Play with it...

Psst I'm slowly bring the feed back up to the other fish... they are a Bit Shy after I went Fishing for the dead fish in the tank.. the one in the settlement are not complaining at all and demolish all the food they can..

Shame about the fish Snow, user error has happened to me a few times as well, trout aren't tolerant fish what would not cause a koi or goldfish any problems can kill trout right quick.
