Hello all.
I'm new to aquaponics but not new to gardening or caring for fish. I'm in the middle of setting up a small aquaponic system in my basement so I can bring my goldfish in from the backyard pond.
My pond is too shallow to winter over without the risk of it freezing up, so for a number of years now we have drained the pond and brought the fish into an aquarium for the winter. They are fun to watch and the grandkids love to feed 'em when they visit, but they make a mess in the aqaurium. We have to clean the filter and do partial water changes often.
This year I decided to try something to keep the water clean longer and get someting back from all those nutrients.

I'm working on a small CHIFT PIST setup using the old 20 gallon aquarium as a sump, a 31 gallon tote for the fish tank and a small grow bed. I had it all put together with a loop siphon that worked until I put in the medium, then it went crazy. I am revamping it now to a bell siphon. Once I get things back together I'll post some pictures.
