Post subject:  how do you keep your media guard from tipping over

I am wondering how other people keep their media guard from tipping and letting media in underneath? I am running an affnan siphon and the guard around the siphon keeps tipping a little and letting media in underneath. The media then ends up in my fish tank. I don't want to fix it permanently as i have heard people like to give theirs a twist now and then to dislodge roots that might be invading the space. I have a proposed solution but I was just wondering how other people manage this. My proposed solution is to get an end cap that fits on the bottom of the media guard and cut a hole out of the center of it so it fits over the stand pipe and then silicone it to the bottom of the grow bed so that the media guard can fit into it and be held in place. I'm hoping that this will still let me twist the media guard from time to time.

I find the media holds my media guard in place. I do have a brick or a rock keeping my bells in place though.

If you are using expanded clay , it takes a week or two to settle down. Use a brick, then after a week or so you'll find you don't need to any longer

I use an endcap that is free to rotate around the downspout, it keeps the media guard solidly attached, while still allowing it to spin when required. Works well.

Thanks everyone. I had been using a brick but took it off for some reason and then forgot to put it back. I think I will use an endcap at the bottow since I need a solution that is kid proof and I have already been to the B store and brought one home.

I am using a 90mm to XXmm PVC adapter in my original GB. I used silicone to glue it to the IBC cap. The media guard rotates in the adapter.
I don't use anything in my new GBs, they are much deeper anyway.
I also use gravel as media so not really an issue.
