Hi
Thanks, BYAP, for the great links, information, shop and forum that are all proving so useful to a newcomer to aquaponics. I enjoy keeping my aquaria and vege gardens happy and healthy...AP seems a great, sustainable and productive way to combine the two.

I am in the process of establishing my first AP set-up and have an IBC (thanks Andrew), some hydroton and a 2000L poly tank. My tentative plan is to have 4 or 5 IBC "growbeds" feeding into the 2000L tank in a flood and drain system. I would love to work out a way to incorporate an IBC 800L tank into this system to use as a grow-out tank for cichlids. Perhaps I could drain one of the growbeds into the IBC tank and use the inverted U shaped "volume equaliser" described in the hardware thread as a way to maintain and exchange water in the smaller tank???

So much to do and so much to learn....but made so much easier with enthusiasm and the information/experience here.

Cheers
Erica :wave1:

Hi Erica,

Depending on how you're going to chop the IBCs to make the 4-5 GBs, consider you might need a sump tank to provide your "spare" water needed for a timed flood and drain configuration. You might want to use this sump to grow the cichlids? In any case, draw a detailed plan on paper before doing anything else!

... and welcome!

Scott
