:wave1:

I thought I would introduce myself, everyone calls me oneway. I have a daughter and future wife/son being added to the family. I have a few acres and have been trying to live off my land for the last 7 years, without much success. I have always liked hydroponics and even researched aquaculture several years ago. I never put a hydroponics system in due to the cost associated with the nutrients. I never did fish farming because I didn't know what to do with the waste products.

Finding out about aquaponics has been great because it addresses the nutrients and waste products. I have read all twelve issues of BYAP. Due to financial reasons I need to get a system started soon.

I have a couple totes and some pumps sitting around to start a small system for now. I need to grow enough lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes because the store $ are out of my reach.

Future plans include a greenhouse with ferrocement tanks for fish and veg production. Heat and power system for the greenhouse will be provided by a wood gasifier! I need to produce enough for my family and if I can raise enough to sell or donate to others that have a hard time affording decent food would be great!

I will post system designs and questions for everyone to view and would appreciate any advice given!

btw When does edition 13 of BYAP mag come out?

Have a Great day!

you have access to some good fish in michigan..
yellow perch are an excellent fish, and 3" fingerlings can mostly be grown to edible size in less than a year.. i only had trouble with them when the water got into the mid to high 80's

Yellow Perch!

It looks like I will not be able to put up a greenhouse this year. I will have to use IBC tote instead and hopefully get a shed built around it for now. I should have gotten it started earlier because it is very dry this year and my garden is not producing anything to eat.
