HOwdy Everyone Im an ExPat American living in Denmark. I will be studying Greenhouse Gardening In the fall here in Denmark. I am a BIG fan of aquaponics! I have had aquariums for a long time now (African Cichlids and Saltwater, though short lived and converted ) I am currently living in an apartment which Sucks! cuz i have no yard I am currently running a 250 liter aquarium with Red Empress Cichids, Placidochromis Milomos, and a lonley nimbochromis venustus, its geting crowded so hopefully will be getting a langer 400+ liter but that will have to wait for the funds. Attachment: Photo 169.jpg [ 80 KiB | Viewed 1609 times ] The reason i speak of my aquarium is cuz i plan on using it as my aquaponic fish tank and poop supply they sure got that trick down. I plan on doing a simple system with a grow bed on top on my fish tank, supported by the window sill and fish tank? or i might be making a stand / buying on the fits my use. Was thinking a CHIFT PIST with the sump pump under the fish tank. Well that is enough for now! I like using the smilies Danish |

Hi Danish, I wouldn't use the fish tank as part support for a grow bed as they aren't designed to support weight. Best to make a stand for the GB. You can go chift pist if you like or if the GB is above the fish tank simply place a pump in the fish tank and have a constant flow system returning to the fish tank from the grow bed. Less tanks and no chance of flooding in your unit. |

HOwdy everyone and thanks for the welcome I plan on making a stand for my growbed which will be over my aquarium. It would be nice not to worry about adding a sump pump and then have to worry about over flows or wrong caclilations and all of the sudden my fish tank is siphoned all the water out. I am kinda woried about that considering i live in an apartment.I have a few question for the experts here 1. can a continues flow system also have an auto siphon? 2. if i made a simple system where the GB drains directly into my FT, wont i have a constantly different water level? 3. how big does the sump have to be (like a ratio) compared to the FT or GB? does the sump have to hold more volume than the tank? would a 20 liter contanier work? (i have one laying around I have a 250 liter FT, not sure of the size of GB cuz i have not bought it yet but was thinking a blue barrel cut i half ( long way ) and using the two halves as my GB. Thanks for all your help. I hope to be posting in the member's system thread soon, thats where the action is! Danish |
