Just a quick hello, I have been reading this forum and am hooked on a yabbie farm with a couple grow beds... just deciding on how I want it to work...

If anyone knows how many adult yabbies I could have in a 200lt drum, I would really appreciate it!

Anyone on the forums in South Australia?

the best way to stock yabbies is per m2 of floor space. A good safe number is about 7 - 10 per 1 m2 with adequite hides.

I think a 200L drum on its side could be ok for about 4-5.

Have you got any pics of your system so we could better advise.

I have not made the system yet, still in design phase.. Was thinking of having the drums upright, so I could have 4-5 drums.. But if I can only have 4-5 per drum, I need to keep thinking.

I am wanting to grow some salad veggies in a raft, and breed up some yabbies to eat.. Any suggestions on size of tanks for this would be great!

Unfortunately yabbies are a difficult creature to grow out in hard bottom tank environment. Ive been experimenting with this for as long as I can remember.

The breeding part is easy, the hard part is preventing them from eating each other in high stock densities.... well, densities that make it worth a feed now and then. They are slow growing and canabalistic.

PH can be an issue, temp can be an issue.

There is no fail proof recommendations sorry.

The best option you have is to catch them from a local dam or if thats not an option, make your own dam, if thats not an option you need hard bottom tanks with large floor space.
