But not backwards in coming forwards, if you know what i mean ;)
I've been toying with the idea of both aquaponics, and hydroponics for a while now, and i think i am favouring the aquaponics, just cause i like the idea of it. Symbiosis is such a NICE word afterall, dont ya think? ;)
In life i like to stand out a little from the rest, or do things that are slightly out of left field, or seen as not the norm (poor norm...he gets left out of a lot of things!!!)
Therefore i'm thinking of something along the lines of using shrimp, or crayfish as my "fishstock"
But would i be flogging the proverbial dead horse to even try the above specie in a system?

Welcome to the forum :wave1:

I have heard of members doing shrimp in the US but crustaceans are a different story. Im not sure there is an AP system out there that solely runs on shrimp or crustaceans...not that it cant be done....but you are better off setting up a CHIFT PIST then you can have both fish and crayfish (freshwater kind that is)

CHIFT PIST?
I had to look that one up, lol !!! :laughing3:
I thought it was something to do with skiing at first
Looks a good system, though all the same
Thanks

Gives you 2 FT's to seperate species.

I for a long time thought CHIFT PIST was a swear word :D

I thought it was an anagram of one, myself
A good phrase to use INSTEAD of a swear word though ;)
I wished i'de have thought of it for my username, now :D

hi and welcome
on crayfish i would advise to steer clear of them
you need a special licence to get them cause of the signal crayfish thats now in our waters here in the uk and i dont think that you would be able to get the permission to catch them, dont know about shrimp in the UK but we can do trout but!!! lol guess what! you need to get permission to get trout, i think we in the uk have to register with both cefas and the enviroment agency, cefas do the movement orders to allow you to go get the trout and move them to your pond and the env agency to register your pond,
i am in that process at the min as without all the relevent paperwork you cant get the trout from a farm,
or there are streams with ones that have escaped from farms and if you have a rod licence you can take 2 a day.
why on earth we need to register to stock a fish that is native to the uk i dont know, after all you can goto most aquatics centers and buy mirror carp, tench and other species

Is it any wonder we Brits are thought of in some parts of the world as "Whinging Poms" :D

im just glad that labour are no longer in power, at one point they wanted to tax you if you had a nice view or a patio or a conservatory at your property, god knows what they would have taxed us for an aquaponics system in full swing lol, we brits love to make life hard for ourselves

I imagine that with crays/shrimp etc you would need a big tank/stock number to get the required nutrients too... Just a guess there though.

this is an extract from the daily mail in march 2008
"Every home in the country is being sized up, and every home improvement or sign of a nice neighbourhood, is slowly being photographed, catalogued and taxed by Gordon Brown's tax inspectors.
"Families face soaring bills for the crime of living in a nice neighbourhood. Only Labour would think of taxing people for looking out of their own windows.""

Anyone with the kind of sense of humor to enjoy them probably already has them running though their head. I know i do... ;)

You can always use fish as well as your crays etc.
