G'day all. We are reasonably new to aquaponics and completly new to the byap forum. We have built, dismantled and rebuilt our IBC systems several times in the last 12 months and are fairly happy with the results (For now). So are the silver perch they gained waight well and were tasty to eat. the remainder of the mature fish populate our two origional flood and drain setups and we have just introduced 25 fingerlings to our new CHIFT PIST system 900L FT 2x 200L GB 500 ST. While we are very happy with the robust nature of silver perch not all the family are impressed with their slimy apperance. So we are looking for an edible alternative. Our fish tanks are sheltered and plants grow in a green house as our summers are particularly harsh. Simular to Perth we experiance several weeks Over 40 degrees. With prevailing hot easterly winds for the majority of summer. Our winters are mild rarely below 5 degrees. We are hoping some one in the know can point us in the right direction as most other fish species seem to be cold weather dependant. We would appreciate any advice and are looking to meet other enthusiasts in the area. |

Welcome to the forum Hickertyrd Great to see you have had some success. You can do trout in the winter, they grow to edible size by the time winter is over. You could move your SP to the sump tank whilst the trout are growing in the main tank through winter...then after the trout harvest around september/october you can put the SP back to your main FT for summer. Troutman has applied to stock Jade Perch in WA so hopefully we will see a positive outcome from that this year. |

Thanks for the response guys. I intend on putting yabbies in the sump tank but the perch in one of my flood and drain system need to be eaten soon. So i could add trout to a 700l tank. Could you let me know stocking rates and diet plse. |

Hi Hickertyrd and welcome to the forum. With a 200l growbed 10 trout would be ideal. We would love to see photos of your setup too |
