Hello all! New member from Oklahoma. Really excited about Aquaponics and what I might be able to do with it. I was primarily attracted to the concept because I am a long time gardener, and love the idea of being able to feed my family healthy food! I have done quite a lot of research over the last week, and have decide that my first system was going to be a CHOP 2 system using two IBCs... Decided to join the forum so that I could start asking questions and hopefully get some good advice from some people with experience. Anyone else doing this in Oklahoma? Are you able to sustain an environment through our winters? Any warnings from some experienced Oklahoma users? Thank you all! |

welcome to the forum jsmitty there are many other ways of setting up an ibc. if you can get the fish tank lower then the grow beds then you can just pump up to the beds from the fish tank and gravity feed from the bed strait back to the tank. have you read the pdf http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/Travis/IBCofAquaponics1.pdf and seen the youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYFM7J_TpTU |

Yes, I have researched the many other ways. Where I need to setup is quite uneven, and near impossible to setup the tank to be lower than the beds. I also like the idea of having the water level of my fishtank stay the same. I would go with a CHOP 1 (CHIFT-PIST) system over the CHOP2, but my beds are all going to be at different levels. As far as I can tell, CHOP2 will be the best methodology for the area I am setting up in. |

I am in NE Oklahoma as well! I've actually decided to do a more simple system as my first system, but build it in a way that I can expand in the future if I want. Just bought my first IBC, breaking it a part now! |
