Post subject:  Hello from Bendigo

Hi all.
Very new to aquaponics, only been looking into for about 4 days now. Stumbled across it while looking for poly tank's for the wifes new veggie gardens. We have limited room so wish I had gotten onto this before she wanted her conventional garden, as it is going to get first preference for location.
I have been reading a lot on this forum and gone out investigating different products. Love reading and looking at other members systems and about their own discoveries in getting their system up and running. Still on a pretty steep learning curve at the moment but pretty sure I am going to do an IBC system, DunderOZ's system is probly something like the way I want to go.

What sort of fish could I grow in Bendigo?
Would like to eventually have fish for the tabe but this might be after I get everything settled first with other fish.

Thought I might post on here as wife is already sick of hearing about my new project :thumbright:

Hey there Cranky - also in Bendigo and new to this. I'm looking at setting up a greenhouse-based system - figure better year-round production and I can control the environment better.

Still in planning stages - new job came along and blew my retirement out of the water... :D

Hi DunderOz,
I am currently building my system and like a lot of techniques you have used.
With your growbeds are they only supported by the front metal legs and againts the shed?
I have cut my IBC frames the same way as yours however they are the round metal ones not square and wondering what support I will need. I have started digging holes for front supports and was going to do a cross supports from front to back with 3"x3" however I dont know if this is overkill. I thought I would ask before I completed it as if I put the supports in it limits the space under my GB's for ST.

Thanks for the info on the water bridge too, pretty sure I will integrate this idea for my system too :D

Are you placing your beds against a fixed surface, like a garage/shed?
If you are not, I would be placing them on top of concrete bricks/bessa blocks.
Mine weigh about 640 Kg each.
What are you using for sumps?

Hi there, I'm also in Bendigo and in early stages of building a ibc aquaponics system, have purchased "growlosh" clay from Melb and just waiting for eBay pump to turn up and then assemble it all.
I have been out to see central vic supply's in Maldon and rick recommends 30% catfish to keep bottom clean and 70% silver perch for Bendigo area due to our hot climate and these fish are tolerant to this.
Cheers brett
