Our climate here in Twentynine Palms, is desert. 100 days over 105 degrees, winter rarely goes below 30F.
very intense sunshine, low humidity.
I am a retired Management Consultant and support a small non-profit http://www.sosfoundationjt.org. We would like raise funds in order to set up a demo hydroponics (fish + veggies) system to help supplement the local poor people's food supply.
Has anyone done it in your location?
I have been putting some YouTube videos up on my personal web site http://www.seniorsid.com to give folks some idea of what sustainability implies.
My wife and I live in an 80 yr. old adobe (mud brick) house and feel close to those in need.
Plus we are very aware that the USA food supply is very fragile and that if gas hits the projected $8/gallon then things will change - rapidly.

The biggest problem I have found with growing in the desert is the wind blowing 45mph for a week straight. Heat is seldom an issue. Tweekers can sometimes be an issue as well......
