Hi all.

I've been reading and absorbing a lot of information off these forums over the past few weeks. I'd first of all like to say it's amazing to see a friendly and helpful community with so many contributors.

Quick background on me - been and done a lot from production work to IT and currently a b-double/road train pilot. Hate the city life and spent most weekends of my youth fishing and hunting so have a real appreciation for life away from the "big smoke".

Wife and I own a 60 hectare farm outside Tungkillo on which we are slowly (painfully so) owner building a passive solar mud house. We are both looking for a sustainable lifestyle where enjoying life with the family is more important than paying for it if you get my meaning.

The farm is a going concern and aquaponics is of great interest and a complement to our desired lifestyle so we're looking at starting with something commercial sized.

I have a few questions which I'll start asking once I've had a chance to organise my thinking.

Cheers,
Andy

Hi Andy,
Sounds like some serious systems are soon to be popping up in the outback.
Excellant.
Welcome to the forum and looking forward to your future posts.

Thanks guys.

Since that first post we've been speaking to local council and in principle they are very supportive of such a project. Shed/glasshouse is in the process of planning & development approval.

I'm not prepared to go into finer details since we've been given a lot of leeway on a handshake agreement. There will of course be photos once we get started on it.

Cheers,
Andy

You will never regret building a passive solar house. My house was built in 2001, and every day I'm grateful for the light and heat in winter and the coolness in summer. Feel free to PM (personal message) me if you want any advice.

G'day AyresRocks.

Sounds like you and I are very similar.

I own a 60 hectare 'farm' about 90 mins north east of Perth.

Have just ordered the shed to be installed in the next couple of weeks. Also ordered the water tank (110kl) yesterday.

We are building a Rammed Earth home and have recently got our preliminary plans back from our draftsperson. We designed the house after Bythebrook was kind enough to give us a tour of her house and show us how solar passive works.

The other similarity - I also currently work in IT and have just obtained my HC license - a bit more experience and I will go get my MC (road-train).

Good luck with your plans.

Thanks arbe and bythebrook.

arbe check your PM's sent you some links from some current OB rammed earth homes.

bythebrook - was sold on passive solar about 10 years ago and always wanted to build my own place. Didn't come around to earth building until we had settled on the layout of the house. Took a while for life and circumstance to line up but we're well and truly on that journey now.

Have our shed/growhouse approvals back for the initial system along with the usual plethora of conditions. I'll get started on a system thread once we've got started on the build.
