What a wealth of info on this website and forum, thanks everyone. Just finished assisting my aquaponic building partner, (who is known as Grand Canyon Janitor on this forum), with the construction of his system and now mine is in its infancy. We had a blast, learned a lot, and made a lot of mistakes along the way til we got it right. My pond dimensions will be 12'x8'x1.8' (175 cubic feet) made with 3"x5"x8' landscape timbers, 2"x12"x12' boards and lag bolts locking everything together. No other reason than had this material on hand. 15'x18' 20 mil pond liner should arrive tomorrow. I've been researching most reliable/cost effective grow bed options. Still considering IBC containers ($35 a piece locally) but that still doesn't solve my support table and height of grow bed issue. I'm trying to achieve a height of about 40". I found a design online for a 3'x6'x6" grow bed with a height of 30" using frp, plywood, 2x4's, 4x4's and polyurethane waterproof sealant. I modified the design to give me a grow bed depth of 12" and a table top height of 40". Cost was about $100. Pretty simple construction but a little more work than I banked on. Grow bed = 18 cubic feet. This leads me to another issue. If I use the ratio of 1-1 for pond to grow bed, do I need to build 10 of these to support the 175 cubic feet of pond? Or do I need to base this on the amount of fish in pond? Any advice, comments, criticism, praise is greatly appreciated. Here's a couple of pics of the pond, grow bed and creepy eye. Thanks
