I'm converting a dilapidated outbuilding here at 10,000ft elevation into a 500 square foot greenhouse for aquaponics. Most of the glazing and north wall insulation are installed, will be finishing greenhouse and getting tanks and grow beds started in the next month. Starting with 2 IBC totes as fish tanks, and planning on building my own grow beds using HDPE pond lining on tables with sides. Anyone tried this? Also thinking of trying crushed shale as a growing media (seems similar to Hydroton in many ways, and I've had success gardening in it before, mostly grapes irrigated by greywater). I plan to heat the greenhouse in the winter using woodstove, hot tub, and waste vegetable oil. If you're interested in checking out the project, have any experience in these areas, or want to help install the system so we can learn together, let me know! |
