Hello everyone,
I am very new to this subject of aquaponics but there was something on the "Better Homes and Gardens" program we had taped and watched last weekend and that opened my eyes about the possiblilities of this whole thing.
My Partner and his brother are talking aquaponics for a long time and they both want a system but haven't started their research yet and since I am a computer person I have just googled a bit and stumbled acros this backyardaquaponics website.
Lost of Western Aussis here ;-) nice!
We have quite a large backyard with chooks and a veggiegarden (with soil like the "old fashioned way) already established for years and my partner always wanted a frog and fischpond with water feature etc. but he never had the time to do it and so it never happened.

I think we want the fishpond looking natural as in dig a hole in the garden and use the pond liner and pump as you would for a normal fischpond and have the grow beds on one side with the bottom part covered.
We had a look into the magazine where they use the IBC containers to build a system which is a great idea but I would like to have it looking more natural, landscaped if you know what I mean.
Also there is this shop in Jandikot I want to go and see what they have displayed. Anyone been there?
If you are near Perth and have a working system or a system in planning I would like to know how how you made your pond look natural.
I will read some more... there is so much information here not to mention the pictures.
I think we will seriously look into this after Christmas (only 2 months away).
Thanks for any informations or suggestions
and enjoy the Melbourne cup day 2011!
Cheers Gabi

Hi Gabi, glad you found the forum. The shop in Jandakot is close to home and a few of us visit pretty regularly :) Like even work there. We are close to Gosnells and open 7 days a week, so feel free to drop by and have a look, we have over a dozen systems on display.
Plenty of free info on the forum and website, not to mention the rest of the net. Warning - this hooby is addictive!

Hello again,
I have been here in November and believe it or not our system is up and running now.
We have dug our pond and put in one growbed and have 18 Silver perch and 8 yabbies in the pond now for about 3 weeks.
I think we can still have more fish and will get some more but for now it is good.
If you are interested in pictures go to
gabi-glaezer.blogspot.com

We are in Gosnells, Western Australia and I thank everyone for their input.
Backyard aquaponics in Jandacot was very helpfull we got lot of information there, as well as the growbed, pump, expanded clay and pipes.
All is good and we are looking forward to lots of produce.
Cheers Gabi
