Hello Fellow aquaponicions iv set up a small sysytem whilst we gather materials for larger one it goes as follows 200L GB drains through some make shift stormwater with pots and finishes in a pool lined old galvanised raised garden tank aprox 1500L FT

Hi to the Gatekeeper, glad to see you made it to the forum.
Having spoken to you on the phone earlier today, I can perhaps relay a question to other forum users and please correct me if I am wrong.
The tank described has a liner which is an inflatable outer ring swimming/wading pool. The nitrite readings have been rising despite showing nil when a 90% water change was done the other day. The system has no fish since marron died recently.
The question was asked would the swimming pool be leaching anything that could cause the nitrite level to rise?

Someone told me that pool liners have a chemical in them to prevent algae from growing... could this be the problem ?

the liner seems to be the only odd thing in the system was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem

some liners are impregnated with stuff to inhibit algae.. saying that, i've been using an 8' intex type ring pool (the top ring inflates) for several months with minnows and crayfish, and haven't had any issues..

This a water test from this morning after 1/3 water change late yesterday no fish only plants cycling 15 on 45 off ish (quality timers) is it normal for nitrite to sit .25 as i have no amonmia as i understand it no amonia no nitrite ?

That's quite normal and to be expected... Soon you will see nitrates forming and the nitrites will drop off.

if introduce fish should i wait for the nitrate levels to come or no fish keep cycling?

is this normal nitrite high but i can see the nitrate gaining little bit pleased
Would it be to early to add fish as iam only cycling seasol atm

What kind of fish will you be stocking? You could look on the internet to see if you can find a threshold for nitrite for your type of fish. If the PH and temp is okay... throw 'em in? Just a noob throwing in 2 cents.

Just keep at it the way you are going, wait for nirti to back off then add fish, your nitra should be established by then. I can see it is coming on now. Be patient.
