| Post subject: | Hi from West Aus |
Howdy all, A new member here and soon to be first time aquaponics addict. I live about 4 hours north of Perth on the coast and about to set up my first system. I only heard about aquaponics about a week ago and i am keen to have a go. The Plan: First off i am going to have a micro system for a trial. I have never had a fish tank that i have had to look after before but has been someting i have wanted since my parents had one when i was a kid. So non edible fish to start with running a small herb garden. I am at the point now where i am about to start collecting all the equipment needed to get this system running. I usually find that instructions to set things up can be a little confusing until you try to do them and then they make all the sense in the world (especially siphons!). I have been looking locally and on gumtree for a tank to get me going, so hopefully in the next few weeks i will have all the gear ready to go. The system I am going to aim for will be something like this one. It seems fairly compact and i am hoping that i will be able to put it near a window and not have a light. I am moving house next week so i will know then. Once i am satisfied that i have an idea about what i am doing then it will be time to nab a few IBC's from work Thats the plan anyway I have been stalking the forum for about a week now and it is a great resource with a great community. I am sure i will speak to you all before long Cheers, Ryan |

Hi Ryan and welcome to the forum. Mmmm I bet it won't be too long before that second system is under construction. When the bug bites, there is no turning back. Be sure to take photos along the way and most important, don't foget to share, |

Thanks for the welcomes everyone. I think the aquaponics bug has already bit me and i havnt really started yet! An IBC may have come up at work that i can take, so it could be straight into the deep end with an IBC and some goldies to start with Kangaroodog i have read your system thread. Pretty much how i am planning to start with my IBC. Also i took note to RTFM DecalsbyJT that isnt a video of my system. Just a video i found of a system that i would for indoors. Handy for some easy reach herbs me thinks |

Welcome to the addiction. To embed a YouTube video you just need to put the 'code' between the YouTube tags. Eg: [ YouTube ] _NAiTEq9w5o [ /YouTube ] This is infact one of Web4deb's systems. It is well worth reading many of his posts/threads. Something else worth reading is the IBC of Aquaponics. An overview can be found here: http://backyardaquaponics.com/component ... e/180.html And the manual here: http://backyardaquaponics.com/Travis/IB ... onics1.pdf Looking forward to watching your Aquaponics journey. |
