Hi all

I have been reading the forums for quite a while now and they have been a great help in setting up my first system so now I figure its about time to say hello and post a few pics of what I've got so far.

The system is currently a CHOP setup with the sump being pumped into the fish tank and the overflow from the tank going to the grow beds via a siphon setup to draw solids from the bottom of the fish tank. The grow beds are a constant flow, flooded setup. I have around 25 goldfish in the main tank and 10 small ones in the sump, I moved these to the sump as a lost a couple by getting sucked up the siphon in the fish tank and ending up in the grow beds....oops

Are your tanks sealed.

Looking good, but yeah, I hope those tanks are aquaplated or something. Fish and gal dont mix

The tank is not sealed. I done a bit of looking into this when I found the tank and from what I could find from multiple sources was that new galv will kill your fish but the longer it has been in contact with water the more the toxicity will reduce.

As the tank is 10-15 years old and has been used as a rain water tank all that time I'm hoping it will be alright. The fish are doing really well so far but time will tell, new tank if need be

from experience seen by users on this message board, even the "old" galvanized is going to leach toxins into your fish water and kill them.. the addition of the fish waste to the water, the nitrification process will change the acidity of the water

I'd get rid of the fish tanks..

They will kill the fish over time..

Save yourself some grief down the track..

I'll echo what others have said. Either get different tanks or coat them. You'll regret not doing one of those in time.
