Hi there,

I am Wouter from Stellenbosch, South Africa.

I am new to aquaponics and excited to learn as much as I can here before starting my own system at home.

Yes, thanks so much for the help so far Brain!

Hi Carel, I think I have actually sent you a message on facebook after I had a visit to your blog. :)

I planning to start December when work quiets down a little, currently I am a bit undecided if I want to do a traditional system with gravel or deep water culture. Besides that I have to get the funds together, as it is quite a bit more expensive than I originally imagined if I use this local online store as reference. I need to find a cheaper source for IBC's or/and planter boxes or save a bit more.

Also going to try get my brother in the Northern Cape involved, he is a soil scientist, but he could probably advise on aquaponics as well :)

Welcome Wouter, good idea learning first before setting up, see a few ppl here start first then try and learn what went wrong when it fails.

If funds dont allow purchase of recognised equipment [like IBC's] think of other cheap or free alternatives.

I have a source for IBCs at R350 each!

I have both growbed and DWC. DWC is very nice for bushy leafy stuff like basil and salads and whatnot. I prefer having the other stuff in a gravel growbed..
