Hi all, I am hoping I am the first South African on here, that would be rocking! My name is Ryan I am a 23 year old South African. I have recently found out about aquaponics and am very excited to start my own system. I was planning on doing it this weekend but sadly our jigsaw was stolen I am a video editor but my life goals and ambitions is to be able to run off the grid and be able to be totally self sustainable, and this is defiantly a step in the right direction. Any ways, so thats me, stoked to meet you guys and get involved here as much as possible. Love and peace vibe |

Hey Ryan.... Sorry, definitely not the first South African on board.. Probably the first SA video editor though.. So what were you going to build your system from...? |

My plan is to try do it as cheap as I possibly can. I would also like to be able to reproduce for friends in the future. My plan is to start an indoor grow room. I am lucky enough to have a 3mx3m room which would be perfect. I want to use florescent lights in the beginning but then move onto a nicer light once I can afford it. |

IBC's are actually quite expensive in South Africa. I can get barrels for a much lower cost and they are way more accessible. I was looking at basing my system mainly on the barrel-ponics pdf I found on this site. Having said that I am not sold, I am more than willing to change up my ideas and was interested to see what you guys thought. Basically I would like to be able to be growing enough vegis for one person to be able to be getting most of his produce from. |

Hi Ryan I am from Capetown too.. Go check my blog at www.aquaponic-monster.blogspot.com We are a couple guys in SA doing this now. I have contact with 3 of them. Only one of whom actually have a running system. - the other two okes are planning and planning and planning, but never actually get around to actually killing any fish.. (Because in my case that is what my wife thinks aquaponics is all about!) You can get IBCs for VERY cheap.. - you just have to look harder. I got mine for R350 each! - I can give you the contacts (in Cape town area) Let me know if you need some help! kind regards Carel the Bassmonster |
