I'm reading about freshwater aquariums, and it's so bizarre, to have read all about Aquaponics, and now learning about maintaining an aquarium. I can hardly avoid thinking...why? Why not just go aquaponics...to begin with.

It seems so natural now. I'm going to have as large a tank as I can afford...weight is probably the biggest factor, I live on the 2nd floor of a condo building.

And I'm going to rig it to use just an air-pump. And I am going to raise worms, and hopefully grubs (it's $240 for a basic system to raise black soldier fly grubs...)

And I am going to grow food, but I'm not going to raise edible fish...they will be for decoration.

Ok folks, when this comes to fruition, I'll let you all know, for now I'll just keep reading about your great adventures!

:laughing3:

It should be pretty busy (economy not withstanding...) this summer, so I may not get started until mid september or october...

hopefully, sooner.

The owner of the hotel where I work at (Quality Inn) is also noticing all the books on fish tanks and aquaponics, and wants to start an aquarium for the lobby of the hotel !

I would love that !

(Mostly because I won't have to spend a dime on it...)

ok, later all,

jeff c

yes, and I actually have some fly larvae/worms growing in a small 3 gallon (or less) compost bin that I experimented with last year...

all the fly larvae are dead...they looked pretty big though! and some of the worms are still cooking in the center of the 'goop'.
