If thats so Duff (not doubting the pause)
Is there a significance in which which roots grow the most mass depending on cycles and flooding times? And does this relationship determine why some people have problems growing some plants and others don't and why some plants wilt very quickly in some systems in HSM while others don't?

The problem is "ideal" conditions would vary from plant to plant. Cacti sure wouldn't like conditions that water-cress would enjoy.
Other than building hundreds of beds to fit the needs of each plant , we look for a balance somewhere between. Perhaps two types of beds to best suit ,, one flood and drain one DWC.

In at least one plant , I believe it's needs for oxygen in the water is MINIMAL.I have been running an experiment ( that's a lie i'VE DONE AN EXPERIMENT THROUGH LAZINESS) ....., I've had spring onions ( scallions) sitting in a glass of water for over a month,, water topped up twice when low level ,, spring onion tops are still going fine.

Age is experience ,, a vast knowledge in the real world. A few minor miss calcs etc don't change those facts.
The beauty of old age is when you get alzheimers you won't remember youv'e got it :)

Ongoing government changes in retirement age etc ,, A conspiracey driven by Roi Tinto / BHP/ Woolworths/Coles????? NOPE , it's a realisation of a very valuable resource that was being wasted.

F&F , how many kilo's in a Fathom?

Smile at youth for their enthusuasm ..... listen to the elders for their knowledge.

Now that should see mne getting somer nice Chhristmas presents from our more mature members:) No doilies please :geek:

You have got to be joking. The only valuable resource they think they are wasting is their ill-gotten slush fund, commonly called consolidated revenue.
If they think the "valuable resouce" is being wasted, pay the pension (as a non taxable income) and let pensioners work if they wish.

:) choice .....,, I doubt that would work ,,LOL.
Pay taxes if you want ,, Bankrupt governemnt.

The pension is only a safety net until peoples own super-annuation takes over the needs. The "transistion to retirement" is another system that encourages older people to share their knowledge.

"The pension is only a safety net until peoples own super-annuation takes over the needs"

I am (1) mildly curious as to why I paid taxes all my life (it certainly wasn't for the Gov't to piss it up a wall)
and
(2)"until peoples own super-annuation" I am not quite sure what that actually means. I remember I had one, however I must be getting forgetful, it seems to have disappeared. How greateful I am that the government has put their OWN money into providing a "safety net".

You must feel really put out that you are having to pay Taxes to support pensioners, and of course educating children.
What do you think they should do with it?

1) I also have paid taxes all my life ..... AND I have paid super-annuation for the last 25 years, because the reality is that there will not be a pension soon.In fact the government so loves my tax that they increased my minimum retirement age to 63 .
On this isuue , my Father paid Taxes for in excess of 50 years and recieves ZERO ZIP from the government.
2) I have no idea what happened to your super , if it's lost put a lost and found in the newspaper or search the government site for tracing lost super.

Indeed you should be greatful that the Government has a safety net paid for by all working Australians.
I have no problem paying taxes for Pensions , educating kids , roads hospitals etc , not sure why you think I do.

It is rumoured in Africa there is a large bird which sticks its head in the sand. Over here we have ones that think they can outrun roadtrains. I am still trying to work out which one you remind me of Chappo

"Indeed you should be greatful that the Government"
And
Actually I meant " talk to the hand"

Well call a spade a spade Chappo, don't dance around.
Anyone who thinks that you should be "GREATFUL" to a bunch of employees who you pay exhorbitantly, pay almost everything for them (and I include pensions in this) don't do what they say they will do, behave like kids, rip you blind and you can only fire once every 4 years (then you get the same arseholes back ) shoud be "GREATFUL" that I was being polite.
This is off topic; start a new thread, perhaps called Road-runner, if you wish to continue.

Sleepe ,, it is you that continues not me. And if you are on a Pension I am one of your Boss's ,,,LOL I pay your wage ,,LOL
Seriously Sleepe , let it go , I have no idea why you have such a chip on your shoulder and i really don't care to find out.

I certainly don't think this thread is a place for a political debate. Take care and make sure you spend your $35 increase wisely.

OK, back on track

Have been looking at the max temp I might get in a polytunnel. WelshDragon has got over 60degC in theirs, which'd be a little hot (for both plants and fish).

So now I'm looking at extra ventilation and/or moving the fish tank outside the polytunnel - although I'll then have to worry about it freezing
