Look forward to those photos Doc.

We had a bit of rain and storm on the weekend for the first time in many months. Been very dry. They had a torrential downpour during the Springbok vs Argentina game in Pretoria which looked hectic.

I got out last night and found two more snails. They were hidden under the grow bed. Bok choi had been smashed. Hopefully they will come back to life.

I put some drink bottles cut in half over the bok choy and within 1 day are showing great signs of life. Snails kept out, Yippee.

The bottles are acting like little greenhouses. I am surprised they didn't blow away in the wind the last few days. Hope they are not getting cooked at the moment.

Thanks MC.

Yep, worked a treat. Green shoots on all the plants, Amazed at how many actually have reasonably developed leaves after just a few days.

Some of the bok choy are now bigger than first purchased. Still living under the protection of the drink bottles.

Dropped into the BYAP shop and picked up some more fish food. My SP's had been fed on 3mm pellets ever since they went in, almost three years old. I was convinced that they should graduate to 7mm pellets. Hmm, okay I said. Well bugger me the fish go crazy for them from the first drop. No wonder everybody else's fish are bigger than mine (they were being starved). They have now turned into greedy little pigs.

I'll save the last of my 3mm pellets for the new fish when Gavin opens his shop for fingerlings in Oct.

I love your mulberry - is it a dwarf? White or red?

J,

Its a full blown one. It started from a cutting about a foot long, it spreads over 4m wide now. Red Fruit just starting to colour up now. Should get a good harvest this year.

This is from an organic site(can I place the link?):

Slaters

To combat the slaters you will need to cut a yellow grapefruit in half and scoop out all the flesh. Then all you need to do is simply place halves around vegetable patch checking each morning for slaters underneath grapefruit halves. Scoop the slaters out and drown in a bucket of water or place into the bin.

Cheers C,

The buggers I found went and hid under my stones and were hard to extract. Might try and flood them out tonight. I guess they float.

Thanks Kat, no system plans yet. Just moved into our rental yesterday. Been overcast so I don't even know where the sun will come up. Will be planning to do something small now that summer is on the way. Have lots to do to get settled in but every day is a little easier. :thumbright:
