harvested my very first vege today - a radish - tasted great. Topped up evapouration water loss and am twice daily feeding the trout who are ravenous.
I will try your moth solution chemical this comming weekend I guess available from Bunnings. Long stringy algae attached to tank wall in S Perch fingerling tank is very evident but normal I guess. My tomatos seem to be dormant and I am suprised to hear you are picking tomies now???!!! oh well the joys...

I thought I was having probelms with the great tomato thief again (see post afew years ago ... birds, blue tongue, dog???) but saw a tomato seed on SWMBO's lips. And who's the one that keeps on saying, its not very productive is it.

Punnet of toms in lamb souvlaky wraps last night.

Still got another punnet today- destined for pasta bake tonight. It is only three plants.

Beer traps full of slugs, lettuce seedlings survived another night. Planted some basil and chinese cabage seeds, although I expect the cabbage will go to seed almost as soon as it sprouts with te rapid increase in temps. Hoping The way I have toms around the perimeter will help keep temps dont on GB.

Nice Doc. I have some tomatoes planted in pots that are starting to grow nicely. Put them in as seedlings about 6 weeks ago.

Do you use shadecloth at all?

Regards, Martin.

Yep shade cloth over my bed. With the tom plants around the sides, the bed is well protected. This might keep the temps down in there this year and slow the plants going to seed down.

Basil and cabbage seeds have sprouted.

Had a few spuds shooting in the cupboard, so thought I would plant them out. Emptied out the bags that got attacked by snails, hey, a large bowl full of baby tomatos. Happy with that!

Hey Dr Bee, with the heat over last few days here in Bunno, I coverred one of my 2 tanks with styrofoam sheet to keep heat out. I now notice my trout very sluggish and not gulping down their food. I guess it must be getting close to harvesting them - what do you think? My thermometer drowned in rain and I havent replaced it yet (2 weeks time at BYAP).

Not sure about trout I'm sorry, but my SP's are smashing down their food. I've got to be carefull not to make them too fat, I just want them big.

The kids have spent a few afternoons in the pool, so the water temps must be creeping up. Its still too cold for my bones though.

I imagine the tanks above water would be a few degrees warmer than the pool.

Spuds planted 10 dyas ago have reached the surface, Boy they come up quick, about a foot in that time.

Finally worked out how to get photos off my phone. Photos that the spuds really did occur. Size from 50mm down to 10mm.

Nice one! I have had radish and my brocoli are starting to how their heads. Have harvested remaining trout and they are in freezer. Was at BYAP Jandakot earlier this arvo an bought a second thermometer as first one drowned in the rain a few monts ago and I am uncertsin about its accuracy - now I can be sure to be sure...
Have introduced a raft into my tank with silver beet seeds, plus am trying the floating seed raft thingy to sprout some been seeds. Also bought some appropriate sized feed granules fo my SPerch fingerlings from BYAP. One thing for sure is the growth rates for plants have certainly accellerated in the warm weather...
Have builty a basic pond vaume cleaner to clean the base of my tank after removal of trout - eventuually was successfull. Intrigued to find heaps of little red worms about 1 cm long. Have no idea what they are.. Has anyone else come accross these??? :dontknow: are they harmless or do they need removal??? if so how???

Look up Blood Worms on the Internet and see if any of the images match what you've found.

Yes bloodworms seems to fit the description.
Today I went with my nephews to a place we call the bird park - big swamp in the middle of Bunbury and caught a couple dozen Gambusia (eat mosquito larvae hopefully including bloodworms) plus several dozen small shrimp which can habitate the algae lining my fish ponds. Boy also caught 6 small mullet about 3 - 4 inch long which i have put into tank with my silver perch fingerlings - hopefully everyone will get along!!!
