Just note that fish like a wide area to swim and grow in, not tall. Keep the tall ones for cutting in half lengthwise or horizontal to make your growbeds.
That is, if you go with barrels. Then carrying that thought onward, rule nothing out. If it holds water, it may be fair game. You can always put something around it to hide it from view. The veggies don't mind what it looks like.

well I think I may have found IBC Totes. Just they never answer there phone LOL.
trying to find pumps also. Love the guide that BYA made.
just wish it was in gallons to make it easier for me haha.
america is so odd like that to use gallons & feet instead of the metric system.
I don't even remember learning any of the metric system in school.
besides teachers telling us 1 meter is 3f instead of 3'3" or something like that.

still trying to figure out which route to go.
If we get a greenhouse built I would go with 300gallons of water & slowly fill it with rainwater & well water. 3/4's of the year I will be able to collect rainwater to do some filling.
and I do plan on having a overflow drain to flow outside in case.

now i just need to figure out exactly All I need so I don't get carried away. Will search the forums more for suggested pumps etc.

I might even just do a flood & drain or what ever is simplest. & keep it 2-3" below the top if I go that route.

Sorry if my knowledge of the lingo isn't fully perfected yet. still studying.
Mind you I have only been studying this for about 1-2months now.

oh ya & The vista system took 3m to boot & 30-60s to register the key for avast antivirus. LOL love's the new register system.

They picked it up offered to pay me & I would not accept any payment.
normally you pay 55 just for doing that around here. I charge 25 if it takes me more then 15m and 10 if less. depending on customers. many I prefer just do favors for as we take care of each other. if i need something they take care of me also.

ok the local place is 225 for the ibc tote.
I am positive for that amount I could build my own or else buy other stuff
that would hold the same or possibly even more.

 No way man. That's way too much. Keep looking around and asking everyone. Like delivery guys, shop clerks, folks in the hardware stores, people at fast food restaurants, the list is endless.

I used to keep a list of materials that I wanted and handed it out to lots of people. Worked too. Have all kinds of stuff for my next system.

The list is around here somewhere. I'll send it to you in a PM.

Looking forward to what you come up with. Im from northern California (Susanville) I thought you might be nearby but definately not. I do have friends about 30 mins away in Brookings Oregon though so I know what you mean about the cold. Their house is a 2 minute walk from the ocean, too bad its so cold you damn near go into shock if you try to swim!

lol mattlevy
that's very true. Hence why i put true northern calif. cause i do not consider sac or Frisco norcal. close but not exactly. more north central for me lol.

Brookings & Crescent City = same weather. so it makes it hard to grow many things. And on top of that we will be hitting rainy season here soon.
Then living so far from bigger cities make it difficult. medford is about a 2-3hr drive. eureka is 1.5 and Sacramento is about 7hrs. frisco is closer only due to not having to go across the whole state. LOL

I am about 4min drive to the beach. I should calculate how many miles the drive is. I have to drive 1mile east then 1mile south then not sure how many miles west to get to the beach.

but ya Sofar I am thinking about converting part of my garage & might replace a few steel panels into clear panels. that way I could provide light when possibly and a little extra heat. Garage averages at 60+ yr round.

I seen a setup in eureka that I truly like. 4x10 tank about 8-10" deep & 2 4x8 shelves above for planting. But there's is a constant flood system with Styrofoam & net-pots.
I thought about doing that & raising shrimp below it with a few small fish.

but most definitely when i do setup I am taking step by step photo's and post in a new spot on the forum.
just need to figure out which pumps fish & design to go with.
as wife and I still determining which veggies to grow.

PS No offense on the norcal part.
