This is NOT MINE,but it gave me a idea. I want to build a pond like this.
I was wondering if I could run the same system, but put my GB pump in the out going filter? That Pump would be on a timer. The GB would dump back into the pond.

If your beds are big enough you do not need this extra filter on the system. Just pump form the pond up to the bed(s) then drain back to the pond.

The order I think is wrong, if you do pond then this filter then beds then the filter clogs with solids and the beds don't get the benefit of the nutrients in the solids, because you'd have to backflush the filters to unclog them. If anything you'd want pond then beds then filter. (but you don't need the filter)

The gravel performs solids filtering, nitrification, and support for the plant roots. You don't need anything else added to the system if you have enough gravel volume for the amount of fish you're raising. HTH!

Do you mean flood and drain versus constant flood? Flood and drain is standard, constant flood is still non-standard. The hazard with constant flood would be anaerobic spots in the gravel if the flow and/or oxygenation weren't adequate. With flood and drain you are oxygenating with each cycle so it would never be a problem. If your pond is big enough relative to your bed volume then you can do flood an drain even without a sump. Gravel beds typically fill with 40% of the water they would need if the bed didn't have rocks in it, so a 100 gallon gravel bed would take 40 gallons of water to fill it.

this is mine.

no sump, no external filter. 1500L of growbeds and about 3-4000L of water Hardly any solids build up anywhere (its much more advanced than shown in the photos, I just havent had time to update my thread).

personally, unless you want really high fish loads and nearly no plants, there is no need for biofilters.

Started the herb aquarium aquaponics this weekends. Its mainly for the wife and feeder fish that I will use for the pond. 2 birds one stone.

I got the 10gallon Herb AP going now. My friends Love the herb gardens, think I will have to help them set them up now

I am going to try bream and catfish since they are native and plentiful around me.

This is my 10 gallon starter system for herbs. Just housing other plants until pond get finished. The barrel system is the product of one conversation with a friend. I told him to Google aquaponics one night.

Just a little update. The pond keeps flooding and I keep pumping out. I hopefully it will be done by Friday. Damn SC weather. Raining every 3 days.

Good to see another AP starting around this area. Keep posting.

Yeah, Bill I have passed the addiction to 2 other friends and they are starting small herb tanks also. All in ANDERSON,SC.
