I live near Houston Texas.
Summer peak midday temps can be above 100F/37C with very high humidity.

Research more. There are plenty of examples integrating media beds with DWC. A wicking bed is basically a constant flood media bed with the plants kept in soil containers just above the waterline . Paying that kind of money for plans to make something which has been made, photographed, filmed, explained in meticulous detail on the tubes hundreds of times over is...... . I mean if you're convinced it'll save you that much more time than any number of tutorials already out there, just remember you still got lots of parts left on your shopping list. This is why starting with a small system is so good to build up those training wheels before plunging into big systems, which is going to cost you WAY more than you think, even with plans.
