Hi everybody

I'm Guillaume, I live in Hanoi. I'm there since around 7 years.
I'ma total newbie with aquaponics, but I intend to build something on my balcony or my yard and as I was looking for informations I've found your forum.

I'm pleased to find passionnate people, I hope that at a point I'll be able to bring my experience and participation too.

I did'nt start anything yet, I'm still planning (and hesitating)which kind of system I should use.

The easiest place is my balcony, but I wonder if an IBC is viable. The weight will reach 800kg right?

Or I make it downstairs, but indoors....

The last ressort is to use 200l barrels, then a more little system, it would be for fun more than to really get harvest that feed me and my wife.

I doubt your balcony could stand the weight of the IBC and other system parts so I'd probably put it downstairs. The weight will depend on the fill level and there are some different sizes of IBC. I think your weight estimate is a little low, probably closer to 1000 KG and that doesn't include any of your grow beds, their water and media if they use media.

Sometimes it's tough to decide what the best way to setup the system is. I have the same trouble since space is at a premium.

Well, better be safe than sorry, then I'll put the IBC (but still not sureif I'll choose that) on grounds, and maybe a pipe to bring water upstaires. Around 3,5m high, I think I'll use regular half barrel 200l on balcony.

Or, I use only barrels even for fish tank and all on balcony. I'll think easier about it when I'll see the balcony for real. Actually, it s a house that I will rent soon, I just saw it very quick.

When you choose your pump you'll need to look at the volume it can deliver at a given head height (the distance from the top of your water that the pump is in to the highest height you'll have it pumping to). Most pumps have a chart or graph that shows this. A lot of pumps can't do what you are asking and you need to make certain the one you get will.

Well, her in VN there's no "runnign water" system except perhaps on very modern buildings.
Then all houses have 1000 liters tank on roof and another tank in the yard. They use pump to send the water up and then in all showers and tap it's only gravity.

I saw a plumber put a new tap without shutting down water, just buy pushing and fighting the pressure to screw it, but as itis only gravity not so difficult, just plan to bring a bunchof towel and plastic basket...

All that tosay that we have a range of pump that are made for that, like 3m3/hour at 5m high.

I wonder, about the maintenance, I 'll have to go to the fish tank and then enter thehouse, take the stair check the growbeds and go back, I'll bein shape in a few weeks, organic food, organic fish and sport!!

But as I still notdecidethe system, I ll make plan in sketchup first, and when I ll see the house in details maybe I'll have more ideas.

I'm still browsing all the forum to get ideas and tipsto be sure to start with a maximum of informations.

I started a "proof of concept" system on my balcony, working on solar power and ornamental fish, and would like to work with others on something bigger.

Learning as I go, on vegetables, fish, fish feed, etc.

Are you still working on it?

Well, working on it for now mean planning and gathering as much information as I can. But I will launch the project as soon as I can.

Glad to hear you're in Hanoi too.

It will be nice to meet up, I have a project to built a little something in my "kind of appartment" but also a bigger system in Ba Vi, (near the national park) 45km from Hanoi.

Let me know if you want to pass by and discuss about it, it's an entertainment for me, then it could be fun to share experience or even make it together if you like DIY project.

Hi all i'm new to all this and residing in Hanoi. i would love to come see your project here in Hanoi and the bigger one near Ba vi. I'm hoping to create a small-scale project here myself during TET.

i want to gain as much experience dealing with Aquaponics before July 2017, this is when i will return back to South africa and hopefully be able to better my project that i did here for some underprivileged schools struggling to have access to healthy affordable food.

this is the idea, please let me know if you are able to show/guide/mr mayagi me into the aquaponics ninja i yearn to be.
