Hey all
So i currently have no experience with aquaponics. I'm hoping to start an outdoor system soon inside a green house I ran year around. Anyone in or close to my neck of the woods? Trying to decide what fish I can use that will survive both winter and summer here in Kansas. Please help!

I'm not in your area but I know what your whether is like.

Are you growing them for food, to sell, or just for looks?

Many of the native species in your area would work depending on the size of the tank -
Channel Catfish, Bullhead Catfish, Bluegill, Redear, and Green Sunfish are the first that come to mind. There are a bunch that not many have tried but that might work, like many of the bass species (striped, spotted, smallmouth, largemouth, and white bass). Along the same lines but less likely in a greenhouse, Walleye, Sauger, Saugeye and Yellow Perch which all like cooler temps (not as cold as trout though). You may be able to grow Tilapia during part of the year but temps need to stay fairly high for most species of Tilapia. Trout are the other way around and need cold water 75F and below or they die so I doubt they'd work for you. Koi and goldfish might be an option if you don't plan to eat your fish. Raising baitfish like minnows might be something you want to try if you fish.

Black Crappie are difficult to feed train so you should probably skip them.

You'll need to look at your state rules regarding stocking and what's legal there .
