Hi! I've never been a fish person, but my family lucked into a gorgeous apartment with a terrace that includes a ~2500L koi pond with 8 mature koi and ~80 babies, about 3-6cm in length. I'm pretty stoked to start growing some veggies, and would love to put these fishies to work helping with that.
About my set up: it's a quarter circle pond, 3m in radius, and 0.36m deep. It has a big artificial crop of rocks in the middle that hide the pipes and cables and provide a place to mount spotlights. I guess it's pretty feng shui. It gets direct sunlight most of the day, and since the pump has been off for a long while when the apartment was unoccupied, it is full of algae. The little fish seem to love eating it. There is a big frangipani tree next to it, which drops lots of blossoms in the water, but I try to fish them all out. I don't think they're harmful to the fish though, since they seem to have survived so far.
There is a small functioning pump, and a terribly s**tty filter.
I have located a Filipino (English speaking, but not local) handyman who has said he will help me set up any system I like as long as I source the materials...so that's where I'm at.
I have looked through the introductory materials, and have decided I want a simple flood and drain system, I just need now to get beds, growing media and platforms to support it all, which should be easily delivered from mainland China...IF I could speak/read Chinese, which I can't.
I see there are others here in Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, etc...have you encountered similar sourcing problems?
Looking forward to having many many more questions for the hivemind!
