Howdy aquapon-maniacs

I've made a prototype flood and flush system so that I could get used to the idea of managing fish and to play about with bell siphons etc. I have been been reading the books, the articles and watching the videos for the last 6 months and I'm ready for the next step ... CHOP2. But, I want to keep the costs down and like the option of scaling the system later with vertical towers or NFT tubes against the walls and maybe even some deep water systems. yep, I have been bitten and smitten by Aquaponics.

I'm torn between Murray Hallam's IBC Tote system and the use of barrels (though not for barrelponics). Any suggestions and advice here would be great.

I'm also somewhat conflicted about its location; indoors, outdoors or poly-tunnel. I haven't been able to find any general advice on this and could do with some pointers. I live in the southern state of Brazil which is a temperate region at 30 degrees south (Brisbane would be an equivalent). The climate's personality is a sub-tropical/temperate mix and the temperature can fall below zero Celsius in winter. I am leaning towards a poly-tunnel using PVC tubing.

Keep on growin'

Jason

The only thing that I would be confident in saying, is that ROUND fish tanks are far better than square ones..
You can.get.them to swirl properly and this gives a more pleasant situation for the fish, trouble spread out on the flow..
The swirling also allows better waste removal..

Dudo bom Jae,

Welcome to the forum. Barrels, IBCs; it all comes down to the cost and what is available for free. Get your biggest container as the fish tank and the rest as grow beds. The more grow beds, the more fish you can have.

Indoor or outdoor depends on the fish. Study the fish you want and see what temps they thrive best. Thier optimum temperatures to feed and grow will affect your decision on greenhouse, indoor or outdoor selection.
