Salaam to all of you.

I live in the United Arab Emirates as migrant worker.
My roots are in Europe, in the colder part.

Since I have a house there, with a well in the basement and with lots of tanks, I got the idea to start up farming fish. My house used to be a brewery hence the well and the tanks in the basement.

The water is year round 14 degrees and must be drinkable. Otherwise the village around the brewery would have been wiped out I guess.

Searching the web, I found this fantastic manual about IBC and aquaponics and it looked a good idea. Raising fish in the basement in the beertanks, afterwards pumping up the water to ground level to grow veggies.

Anyway, I located a tilapia farm experimental breeding center here in the emirates, got 50 or so fingerlings and started a test set-up on my own. Aim is to experiment as much as possible and get knowledge. When returning in a few years to Europe, I want to start It up on a bigger scale. Not commercial but just to get some food on my own.

More about my humble set up later.

I understand I cant grow tilapia in Europe in the cold water but I hope trout might do.
So far my installation is doing fine and I learn a lot.

Hope to meet people on this forum who can help me.

Hello Swazz

Temperature in the summer, exceeding 50 degrees C, is uncomfortable when working outdoor.
I guess like - 20 in canada or siberia must be uncomfortable.

Driving a motorcycle is even a sweaty affair, especially on traffic lights (especially with an aircooled one)

For the fish it doesnt matter since they are indoor and houses have airco. Power break is unheard of.
Outdoor plants struggle and only few plants can survive midday direct sun.
